James G. Jones, M.D., Medical Staff
Dr. James G. Jones brings over 16 years of experience to Friends Hospital and currently serves as Medical Director of the Admissions and Evaluations Center. In this critical role, he leads the team that provides the first interactions a patient has with the hospital after experiencing a crisis.
Dr. Jones has spent his entire career in the Philadelphia psychiatric community at some of the region’s leading hospitals including, Girard Medical Center, Mercy Hospital, Neumann Medical Center, The Kirkbride Center, and Northwest Institute. Immediately prior to joining Friends Hospital, Dr. Jones served as Medical Director of the Crisis Response Center at Temple University Hospital’s Episcopal Campus. He also currently serves as a Psychiatric Consultant for the Philadelphia Criminal Justice Center.
He is an active member of the Philadelphia Department of Public Welfare’s Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee and the Behavioral Health Clinical Committee Department of Psychiatry. He is also actively involved in the Pennsylvania Office of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services, where he aids in the development of statewide criteria for evaluating patients and legislation that impacts the mental health community.
Dr. Jones holds a bachelor’s degree from St. Joseph’s University, Philadelphia, and a medical degree from Temple University School of Medicine.
