Denise Montgomery has been the Nurse Executive at Friends Hospital since late December of 2007. She was raised in the Cobbs Creek section of West Philadelphia. She graduated in 1997 from Community College of Philadelphia with an associate’s degree in Nursing. She completed her boards and received her RN licensure in the same year. In 2003 she earned her Bachelors of Science in Nursing from the Thomas Jefferson University and was inducted into the Alpha Eta Honor Society for allied health students. Denise was board certified by The American Nurses Credentialing Center as a Psychiatric and Mental Health Nurse from 1999 to the present. She is working towards her MSN at Drexel University.
Denise began her love for mental health at the Belmont Center for Comprehensive Treatment as a Psychiatric Technician for over five years and then held various leadership positions as a RN within the organization for an additional nine years; Team Leader, Nursing Supervisor and Nurse Manger. She has worked with diverse mental health populations such as general adult, co-occurring substance abuse, child, and adolescents. As well as manage specialty units such as eating disorder, Rainbow Haven (GLBTQ), ECT, women’s treatment and geropsychiatry. Denise has held positions such as Shift Supervisor/Educator for Core Care Systems, Crisis Response Center Nurse at Mercy Hospital of Philadelphia, as well as the Assistant Director of Nursing and Education at the Renfrew Center of Philadelphia.
Denise is a member of the corporate Nursing Practice Council for Psychiatric Solutions Inc and is a member of PONAL Pennsylvania Organization of Nursing Leaders as well as a member of the (APNA)- American Psychiatric Nurses Association, and sits on the administrative council’s expert panel.
