Martin D. Plutzer, M.D., Staff Psychiatrist
Dr. Martin D. Plutzer, M.D., Staff Psychiatrist, has over 35 years of psychiatric experience and is a member of the American Psychiatric Association. Throughout his career, he has given numerous presentations on topics such as bioethics, infantilism, management of dying patients, emotional problems of the unemployed, psychological aspects of middle age, stress management, careers in psychiatry, coping with chronic illness, burnout, the concept of mental health, the doctor/patient relationship, drug therapy of psychiatric illness, management of sleep disorders and suicide.
He currently serves as Associate Professor of Psychiatry for Drexel University College of Medicine and has maintained a private practice in psychiatry and psychoanalysis since 1974. Dr. Plutzer has also served as a supervisor of a psychiatric intensive care unit, director of a general psychiatry clinic, and medical director of a women’s psychiatric unit. He has been teaching and supervising medical students and psychiatric residents for 35 years.
Dr. Plutzer has been awarded the Nancy C.A. Roeske, M.D., Certificate of Recognition for Excellence in Medical Student Education by the American Psychiatric Association, and has been named Outstanding Teacher of the Year by Medical College of Pennsylvania Psychiatry Residents seven times. In May 2006, he was presented with the Dean’s Special Award for Excellence in Clinical Teaching at Friend’s Hospital by Drexel University College of Medicine.
Dr. Plutzer is board certified in Psychiatry and Neurology. He earned his Bachelor of Arts from Alfred University, Alfred, N.Y., and Doctor of Medicine from University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, Pittsburgh.
