Jonathan G. Shack, M.D., Attending Psychiatrist
Dr. Jonathan G. Shack is Attending Psychiatrist on the General Adult Units at Friends Hospital. Prior to joining Friends Hospital, Dr. Shack served as Medical Director of Inpatient Psychiatric Services at Temple University Hospital’s Episcopal Campus in Philadelphia. In this position, he was awarded the Best of Temple Episcopal Award for physicians in 2008. He has also been previously employed by the Cambridge Health Alliance in Cambridge, Mass., and by Albert Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia.
Dr. Shack has had numerous articles published on topics such as, effects of withdrawal in addicts, and measuring impulsive behavior and cognition in inner-city substance abusers. He has served as Assistant Professor at Temple University School of Medicine since 2003, and previously taught at Harvard Medical School from 1996 to 2003.
He is board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, and fully licensed in the States of Pennsylvania and Massachusetts. He also serves as a diplomat on the National Board of Medical Examiners and the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. His subspecialties are in addiction psychiatry, geriatric psychiatry, forensic psychiatry, and psychosomatic medicine.
Dr. Shack holds an M.D. from Pennsylvania State University College of Medicine, Hershey, Pa.; and a B.A. from Haverford College, Haverford, Pa.
