Dr. Uffner currently oversees the Friends Hospital Older Adult program, which specializes in inpatient treatment for a variety of mental disorders, including: depression, Alzheimer’s Disease, other dementias, and psychiatric illness complicated by medical problems.

Dr. William Uffner brings over 30 years of experience to Friends Hospital.  Dr. Uffner currently oversees the Friends Hospital Older Adult program, which specializes in inpatient treatment for a variety of mental disorders, including: depression, Alzheimer’s Disease, other dementias, and psychiatric illness complicated by medical problems.  Friends Hospital has offered specialized behavioral health services for older adults for more than 25 years. As one of the first specialized programs in the country for this population, Friends Hospital’s Older Adult program is often looked to as a model for others to follow.

Dr. Uffner is a board certified psychiatrist and a board certified geriatric psychiatrist. 

Dr. Uffner received his M.D. from Hahnemann Medical College and Hospital and did his undergraduate training in natural sciences at Muhlenberg College.  After receiving his M.D. degree, Dr. Uffner went on to complete his internship and his psychiatry residency at Hahnemann. From 1974 to 1976, Uffner completed a Falk Fellowship with the American Psychiatric Association. 

Philadelphia Magazine ranked Dr. Uffner among the region’s “Top Docs” in 2002 for geriatric psychiatry. 

He is an active member of the American Psychiatric Association, Psychiatric Physicians of Pennsylvania, and American Society for Geriatric Psychiatry, as well as the Philadelphia County Psychiatric Society where he served as a past editor for the society’s newsletter, “Transactions”. 

Currently Dr. Uffner is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the department of psychiatry at Drexel University College of Medicine.
